Need Help with RENEW AD Feature

I'm having difficulty figuring out how my clients can simply RENEW their ad after it expires in 30 days. I have the system set to send an email to the user one week before their ad expires, I've tested that feature and it's just not working...no reminders are being sent out to the ad poster. If anyone can help guide me through the proper steps to take to get this Email Notifier Ad About to Expire to actually work AND what I need to select so that an ad poster can simply renew their ad for another 30 days for free, that would be great!!! Right now, the expired ads still show on my site, but it reads "this ad is expired".
