Add %category% to single post permalinks?
Is it possible to add the category name to the post permalink? I know you can for the blog posts (as they are not Custom Post types), but I can't see any solutions for the ad posts?
I've read the reasoning behind ClassiPress's conversion to Custom Post Types
(even though it doesn't offer any real reasoning beyond "using a new feature"). But considering the volume of whinging/whining/complaining in the forums about all the shortfalls of being forced
to use Custom Post Types (RSS issues, permalink issues, plugin incompatibility, et al.) on the primary content type, I can't but help think it really was a wrong decision. Otto also suggest ththat CPTs are not a great idea in his article on CPTs
, and I give a lot weight to his opinion on all things WordPress.
I wonder out loud why the CP ad's don't use the traditional WordPress posts, and the blog posts assigned as CPT considering the heavily-weighted purpose of this theme? The blog and news is a distant secondary (and optional) feature of this theme, but it uses the primary post type. Could this option ever be reversed? Or could we users be given the right to decide via an option?
Choose your standard/primary posts (ads or blog). These use standard WordPress rules including RSS and permalinks.
As a side-note, I have read many/most of the forum threads on this matter. It get's pretty frustrating that so many answers are pushed to an explaination link that really explains nothing. Some actual explanations would certain shed some light on the matter, and appeas many frustrations. There's likely very good reasoning, but when it's not disclosed it's hard to not to shake your head and wonder why, while you're trying to work around a problem that could not / should not exist.
ClassiPress is such a powerful and impressive theme. And I truly respect all those who have put in so much time and effort into delivering it to the public. However, it would be nice for the customers and users of your product to know the details and deliberations of such important decisions.
