    I agree but I don't want to head down that road yet. I think eventually WP will come native with .js loading in the footer. Too many plugins might have trouble if this moved in the meantime.

    To help speed up your blog, I recommend installing the http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/wp-super-cache/ plugin. It's a great caching plugin that I use on all my WP sites.
