Region-based mini sites... still one profile/dashboard
It'd be great to have location-based mini sites. Each mini site will have it's own directory or subdomain.
example.com/n-california or n-california.example.com would be it's own mini-site where users can view categories and latest listings specific to Northern California.
When listing an ad, users could choose their "region" which is the mini-site, while also being able to type in their more specific location.
If many mini sites are to be used, the path of choosing one when listing an ad can be multiple drop-down menus, with the subsequent menus containing region choices based on the region choice of the parent menu. So I choose "USA" then the next drop down contains every state... I choose "California"... next drop down contains "Southern Cali" and "Northern Cali", and I can choose "Southern Cali" so my ad is based in the "Southern Cali" mini-site.
It'd be best if the user still only has one profile page and one dashboard page, even if he posts to multiple region-based mini-sites.
Each mini-site could have it's own search box that only searches that mini-site.
But have an advanced search page with options such as zip-code-radius search, or search within one or more regional mini-sites, plus ability to search by category.
The header of each mini-site should make it apparent to the visitor that he's viewing ads only within that region. Each ad listing would also list the region (mini-site) of the ad (among the phone number, date listed, and the typed-in specific location).
If anyone else would like these options or you have better ideas please say so.
Maybe wordpress MU can be configured as I've described, but it'd be best if this mini-site feature was cooked into CP.
