it may be most of CP websites problem that the posters HAVE TO explore a long list of items in cat so as to choose their target item !!! u know as the title "classifieds" reveals it is evident that a general classifieds website includes at least several cats each of the including several sub-cat !!! so the poster is some times bored or confused or makes mistakes! on the other hand Cat is not modifiable after posting which (in my opinion) is a kindda problem which avoids the website from flexibility !

conclusion :
1-Two drop-downs is needed in 1st step page of post a new ads !
one to select the main cat and the 2nd to choose the sub-cat.

2- plz make it possible to change the cat in user dashboard page !

It can be done through customization using java script.

i don't know Java not even PHP I just modify the codes by trial and mistake method ! u mean I have to forget it ?

do u REALLY think that it is not a standard feature for a classifieds website ?

I have yet to see a wordpress general classified theme that uses that perhaps other specific classified platform does. I think it is not usually included probably due the nature/approach of it's implementation on a general purpose classifieds script. There are issues to be dealt with including the levels of categories it can handle. With a specific purpose classifieds script the level of categories are already set and so it's implementation is much easier. Anyway, this just my approach on its possible implementation and not of the Appthemes developing team.
