Changing the first page.

Hello everyone,
I have wordpress 3.5 and the latest classipress.
itwaork fine and more or less everything is the way I wanted it to be.
only on issue :
How can I change the first page (index) ?
my first page come with the header
then top menu
then the core (categories + latest adds)
then the footer with the bottom menu.

I would like to have in the middle, instead of catalogs, a new page with few words.
I know that I have to edit one page on the Aperence / edit
the question is : which template should I edit ?
