Create New Fields In Profile Page

Hi,

I am trying to create new fields that the user can edit and update in the "Edit Profile" Page
example: http://example.com/profile/

I would Like to create 5 or 6 more fields, and would like the fields to be visible in the "about Author" page.
example: http://example.com/author/admin/

Ive tried altering the code in the author.php, theme-profile.php, tpl-profile.php with no success.

can anyone help me out with this issue?
