duplication of core custom fields

Hi, can someone advise me, as i have not found a thread to for what i would wish to do.

i was wondering can we duplicate core custom fields and re name one of them, so i can have the option of adding custom fields to the same category,
reason being i have run out of category's to add to.

that's if some one understands what i mean.
