How to ad category icons without creating a child theme????

I followed the steps

But to be able to install the files above first you need to do this:

when you do the step above you have to go here:

And the page still not looking as before. I would not call this option USER FRIENDLY

Creating child theme is definitely not an option for me or someone with not advance css knowledge, I was able to display my icons in previous versions of Classipress unfortunately I upgraded and now the category icons are gone! ...... Please anyone, all I need is to put my category icons back any suggestions?
