How can I change state custom filed type from drop down to checkbox filed

I have created a new custom filed as a checkbox and selected it to be searched in Advanced Search.

Let’s say my new custom filed called: color.

And my checkbox’s options are:
• Red
• Green
• Yellow
• Black
• white
When a customer posts an ad, they can select more than 1 colour at the same time. Let’s say “Red, Black and white”
Unfortunately, none of the new custom fields are working in Advanced Search.
However, I have discovered that the custom fields that already come as a default, they are working.
Such as county, state, regions, size, city etc.
Now, if I manage to change state custom filed option from drop down to checkbox, then I think I would solve my issue and I would get the result that I am looking for.

Therefore, my question is to you:

How can I change state custom filed type from drop down to checkbox filed?
