Just Getting Started - I want to trim things down when it come to what visitors see

I want to remove all the bells and whistles - like "Sponsored ads" - "Facebook friends" - "Tags" - and "From the Blog"

I would also like to remove the "Blog" button from the menu bar.

Basically I want to trim the site down to where it is not much more than a directory of classified ads - what do I need to do? I want to remove things, not add to the site necessarily. Can I do this without learning how to tweak code?
