Just a thought
Please accept my apologies if I about to come out with a stupid idea!
I currently have a single instance of classipress running in the themes folder of the wordpress install. Fine I was wondering if I could have a second installation which would normally not be running, but during upgrades \ re installs etc could have the web forwarding moved to it and handle traffic whilst the main install of CP was being worked on.
Hope that makes sense!
If it does would I have to have a complete new 2nd
WP install with the new CP install associated with that new install of
WP? Guess so?
Then comes the sticky question of the database. Would the second install just pickup data providing the paths were correct (thereby the customers would not probably know there had been a changeover) or would it have to run with its own database. If that is te case negates my reason for having it as both databases would need to be synced in some way.
Guess what I am saying is can two instances of CP run on one database as long as only one is active ( has the paths entered).
My reasoning for this is speed. If I am to reinstall to say an new version of CP ( eg 3.1 or a complete re install) that takes time, time when the customers will be getting annoyed. If I could just enable a second CP,by entering just a few paths DB names users etc I could work at leisure then.
Lets call it a hot standby second CP?
Is it possible am I missing something?
Cheers for your thoughts
