Limit characters of custom fields?

How can I limit the characters for each custom field I created? For example, the basic custom field is "Title of the Ad" and I discovered that the character limit is virtually unlimited. Is there a way to set a character limit of, say, 250 characters?

I want to do this for most of the custom fields I created.
