    Proper actual advanced search

    Very disappointed with the lack of advanced search, considering how long we waited. Refined search once a category is clicked is of no use to me - I need the actual, normal advanced search, as a main feature on the home page. So 2 questions:

    1. Apart from hugo's mod which was too complicated for a non-programmer like me to implement (I did try), has there been anyone yet able to do a home page and/or sidebar advanced search NOT category specific, using CP 3.1 (or any version of it)? Anyone know of any plans for this happening?

    2. Without proper advanced search I can't see any benefit in upgrading and losing all the mods I made to my site, especially as it's live. Meanwhile I use a child theme. If in the future I ever do upgrade to 3.1, can I keep the child theme I have (built originally on 3.04 I think) or would I have to build another child theme from scratch based on 3.1?
