Refine search --> include sub categories

Hi!

I am modifying my child theme based on classipress stock theme. I want to improve search UI / UX with adding subcategories in refine search sidebar widget.



I would also like to display parent category at the same time so user can easily navigate tru categories tree:



I am also trying to find out how to separate main and search sidebar. Probably the first step is to create sidebar-search.php file, but I probably need it to include it also at theme functions file?

I will be grateful for any advice where to look for modifying code, because I am very confused with classipress folder / file structure.
