A request for help or advice please re: new frontpage

Hi,

I have been thinking about this for a while now and would like to create a new classipress front page layout which would act as a kind of landing page/homepage.

Basically what I would like to do is create a brand new template file for this purpose based on something like what appthemes have on their front page here:

http://appthemes.com

What I am struggling to come to terms with is how can I do this.

I need the header/footer and wrapper to stay the same for the old homepage layout ie: tpl-ads-home.php because this will still be used in the main scheme of things, but will not be used as the main landing page like it is now.

I don't know if I am looking at this the wrong way so any advice on the best way to accomplish this would be very much appreciated.
