Restrict field characteristics/Generate G Map link

Does anybody know how to do either of these two things:

1. Restrict the postal code/address field to a specific format (ie. Max 6 characters, “letter number letter number letter number” – the Canadian format). I can access phpMyAdmin, just have no idea what to do from there.

2. Remove the Google maps tab without any errors and generate a link instead in the description that a user can click on to map themselves (ie. Redirecting to maps.google.com, automatically getting the address info)

I am hoping to make the Google Mapping experience a little more clean. Thanks for any help!
