Setting a country as default value

Hi,

Is there a way to set a country as default value in the drop down box?
I know this question has been asked before, but the solution provided does not fit me.

Another question / Suggestion:

The user registration could be extended to include not mandatory City and Country fields so that user who wants to post an ad does not have to refill them.
I´m trying to replicate the registration logic in woocommerce
