Url site not loading correctly

Hi,
Please let me say sorry if this appears to be a stupid question! ( I am a newbie very much so!).

I have my classifieds installed as per public_htm/wordpress/wp-content/themes/classipress/

I presume that my url link should point to index.php within the classifieds directory? but when I do that I get :-

Fatal error: Call to undefined function get_header() in /home/market/public_html/wordpress/wp-content/themes/classipress/index.php on line 1

If I point it to public_html/wordpress/ the site loads! but I get the impression it is just by look as it seems to be rather slow and shows text on the screen for a few milliseconds whilst going to the site.

Again I'm sorry if the answer to this is obvious, I guess its telling me I have a problem with the header info in the index.php file, or is it that I have something missing in the classipress config? could someone please confirm that my theory re the url is correct.
