XML feed import - featured image

I have used the dataimport plugin from Digitalquill.

That works more or less OK so far.

That's a good example. Because the content was importet OK, an images was importet, because there is a function to do so within the plugin, but the featured image, which is shown everywhere leaves empty (that's why the default image is shown).

There you can see the featured image, which is my default image, when no image was uploaded from a "normal" user.

But in this case there is no user, but an importet feed. Within this feed there is of course an image-url. The question is how can I import through an image url and make it a featured image (main-pic).

Does is work with custom fields and if so, what would be the code?
