Why not use built-in wordpress functions for image handling?

The image handling in WordPress is great. It uses the post_type 'attachment' to know which image is attached to which post. It automatically resizes into 3 predefined sizes and it's really easy to manage using the Media panel in WordPress.

Why did the makers of ClassiPress code their own image handling? It's really the worst part of the whole theme. (which is wonderful in general)

Did you find a way to get the thumbnail images to show?

I guess it's a lot easier using a custom field for images and doing it that way rather then trying to get the end user to go through the wordpress image manager, which would mean hacking the wordpress core more then likely, just getting it to work as a image manager in the submission form from your homepage. Personaly, I think it's one of the better features they came up with.

I'm gonna use Gravity Forms for letting people post classifieds. This is a brand new highly intuitive contact form plugin that let's people write posts and add images to it. They don't tweak the WordPress core in any way.

Still love ClassiPress though... although I think it would be much better if it would be more of a framework like Theme Hybrid, Thematic, Carrington, etc. Already I made a bunch of customizations to ClassiPress which I probably have forgotten about by the time a new version of ClassiPress is there.
