    Using classipress as a catalogue

    Hi everyone, I was wondering if anyone has used classipress to list an inventory of things for sale.

    I mean rather than list items that other people want to sell. I would like to list things that I want to sell. In principle it sounds simple but it means that the focus of the sales process is no longer the actual listing but rather the contents of the listing.

    I envisage it would mean something like replacing the 'Contact Ad Owner' link with a 'Buy it Now' link and a redirect to the sales form (ie the submit listing form)

    I haven't fullly investigated yet so I thought I would ask if anyone has actually done this yet. I'm stuck on 2.9 for now and I am quite comfortable with it so I don't want to start messing about with 3.x until I get to know it.

    I can see this as being really powerful for people selling an inventory or, in my case, services. Please let me know if I haven't explained that clearly.

    cheers,
    Ian

    I think 3.0 would be great for what your proposing.

    Basically, it would be like creating an ad, but your the only one posting.

    I would remove all of the buttons related to registering and posting of ads though.

    Yes Sarge, that's the idea. But why would 3.0 be better?

    In my personal view only;

    The blog could be used for reviews and product updates.

    By adding a few custom fields to the classifieds, you can change the total appearance to represent that of an actual catalog.

    I would also use the Featured Slider for promotional items, sale items or specials

    With some creativity, I think you can pull it off.

    Yep Sarge, I think you can see what I'm thinking, it could be great for affiliate products and review type sites. I'm having a look at 3 now and the custom fields seem to be just what I need.
