Add an event now widget?

Hi, I purchased Directory child theme a few months ago and I am just getting to set it up now. It seems like an extraordinary child theme and I am excited to get it going. I am trying to, more or less, copy the set up of the demo site. I went into the demo admin panel to see what was done and most seems pretty clear.

My questions:

-I am confused that the home page was a "custom home page"? I'm not sure what is different than using the standard home template?

-I also see that you choose DAY and NAME for permalilnks. Is there a reason for this, is it recommended?

-Also, I have been searching for a long time to try and find the widget to "ADD an Event Now" button on the home page, above "ADD a Business Now button." But I can't figure this out. Since I can't see the plugins from the admin demo, I don't know how this was done.

-I also see a premium plugin in the admin panel "Job Super Search" and can't find this in the marketplace, and don't know what this does.

Can you please advise on the above issues so I can continue the setup?
