Problems / confusion displaying coupon code with affiliate page

I am setting up a new coupon site with Flatter, and I'm trying to figure out how to get the site to open up links and coupons similar to RetailMeNot, if possible.

With RMN:

1 - Coupon Code is displayed
2 - Clicking on it pops the lightbox with the code and link; and,
3 - Affiliate page opens "behind" the active tab @ RMN

Very clear, simple and efficient.

However, with Flatter, when I have "Force Open Affiliate Link" box checked:

1 - Coupon Code is displayed (or hidden)
2 - Clicking on cause the affiliate page to open to the front; however,
3 - My coupon site remains open *behind* the affiliate partner. In this case, the only way for the visitor to see and use the coupon code is to:

a. Close the affiliate partner page that just opened on top
b. Copy the code that popped in the lightbox behind that partner page
c. Then click on the affiliate link again to re-open the partner page

This doesn't seem to make any sense.
Am I doing something wrong?
The extra steps only cause unnecessary confusion and frustration.

How can we have it so:
a. The lightbox pops in the front (like when "Force Open Affiliate Link" box is NOT checked) and
b. The partner page opens *BEHIND* the partner page?

Please advise...
