Smart Assign Questions

Hi, I see that smart assign can attempt to automatically assign job types/categories to incoming jobs. My question is, which fields are "smart assigned" is this only Job Type (freelance, full-time, etc) and Category? and if Smart assign is turned on, then are the Job types and categories configured (above the smart assign toggle) ignored or replaced or appended if there is a smart assign match? or used as a fallback if not smart match is found?

Just trying to understand how it works so that I can configure properly.
