My website stopped working due to server exhaustion. Upon a lot of troubleshootig we found out that there where over 3000 ad_tag items.. all of them blank/empty. They where causing a long running query making the server give up.
These tags can't be deleted from the WP interface as they show up without the checkmark used to select them for deletion. We where able to delete all of them directly on the MySQL database and immediately the site started working again, but new ones are still being created and I have no idea why or from where.
I'm still trying to figure out what process is adding these tags so it can be stopped (we don't use tags) or disabled or fixed.
