Common Registration or Sign up Problems
I just launched my site this week which is using classipress and vantage on a multisite install. I have classipress on the home page and it is the default theme for all other regular pages and the blog. I am using vantage for the directory and I have all sign in links from vantage pointing to the classipress registration page since I want there to be added protection with the password email confirmation. I am using a purchased classi child theme from an appthemes partner and a generic child theme for vantage.
The Good News
I have already had some activity on my site and enjoyed about a half dozen or so businesses adding their listing to my directory. I have even had a person pay for a listing. So I know that the signup process and payment gateways are working...at least sometimes.
The Bad News
I am having some issues with some people trying to signup and they are reporting issues with the password in the email not working or illegal characters in the username at signup. However, I have been unable to find an explanation for either or to narrow down the problem. The person who said he got the illegal characters error message sent me his usernames and they looked like they should work.
I have tested numerous usernames with lowercase, uppercase, spaces and numbers and they all registered just fine on my computer.
So far three people have reported some problem with registration and that is a very high percentage considering the number of listings that have been successful.
How do I troubleshoot this?
Edit to add: I have even gone so far as to manually change the password as a superadmin in my wordpress admin area and they still report that they cannot login (those who actually succeed in registering a username).
