General question about advertising on classifieds sites
I've got a general question as it relates to how a classified "should" be set up. The keyword "should" is obviously arbitrary as everyone has a different approach/personal taste to how their site is set up.
In researching classified websites, I have found out there are countless websites offering free and paid classifieds. Quite frankly a lot of them are unattractive and think that Classipress offers us the ability to build a better mousetrap than some of the well known sites out there.
The one thing I noticed is that either a classified site offers lots of advertisement placement or absolutely no advertising placement.
I personally use Adsense, targeted affiliate programs for my niche along with a few paying advertisers as they generate instant cash flow.
At some point, I would like to get away from the Adsense advertising. While attending a internet marketing conference in Vegas earlier this year, a guest speaker noted that Adsense takes away the professional appeal of a website. I totally understood what he was saying, but if you have a high traffic website, that revenue can be good to substantial. If I can get my classifieds sites to replace my Adsense revenue, there is a possibility of me pulling them down in favor of more paying advertisers or affiliate links.
Sorry for driveling so long...
I presume that most of Classipress users are small, entrepreneurial, non-corporate webmasters. If I am wrong, I do apologize ahead of time. I would just like to get some opinions from the small guy on how they think a classifieds "should" be set up with advertisement placements - none, a little or a lot?
Always treat everyone with respect and courtesy, but trust no one.
