give user choice to change password immediately

here is my website:

when a user registers,. they are asked for their preferred username and also their email, so that the randomly generated password can be sent to their email.
this is gerat, but I would like the user to be able to do one of the two things:
1. change their password, once they login for the first time - i.e. by being asked, rather than just letting it up to them to go and find the change password page.
2. to be able to enter their own password of choice as soon as they are entering their details for the first time, like most other forums out there.
any help on this issue would be great.
