Initial homepage disappeared

Hello, I am currently making a website called lebscout.com.

I have a couple of questions please.

1-The search bar ("what are you looking for" and the category list on its right) disappeared from the homepage and I can't get it back.

2-Also I do not see a featured list slider but this is maybe because there are no actual featured list ads so I will try to add a couple and then see.

Please can you help me get back the initial homepage screen.

3-I am not being able to modify some tabs on pages and sidebars, like when you click on the "contact us page", I am not being able to eliminate the "Meta" sidebar because I do not see it on the widgets menu.
Also how can I remove the "leave a reply" slider on the bottom of the page.

4-I had to create a dashboard page to enter the links like "edit profile, password reset...". How can I do these links in the user options menu? How can I modify what to be shown in the "users option". I want them to be included without creating the page and to be shown directly if someone click on "my dashboard" on top of the page.

5-Last, what option should I give to the new user in the wordpress settings (contributor, author...). For now I have chosen Author, does this sound correct to you.
