no adsense showed, non sidebar changes showed

Hi, I am trying to set the sidebars and, even I follows the instruction of the video, there is no way to make that the changes to the widgets I apply in the dashboard, are reflected to the webpage....is there any switch have i to click for to make changes applicable? I don't see any " save changes" button
and, maybe for the same reason, the Adsense, even if I placed the code in the right space, don't are visible...do I need to install some plugin like easyadsense? I beleived that filling the field for Adsense would make it works...
