Remove Map Tab By Child Theme

Hi,

Can I remove map tab by a way of Child Theme (either through style.css or functions.php)

I have read almost all the posts in this forum about removing map tab. There is only mention of editing the "sidebar-ad.php". One particular post at:

mentions about changing:

$ gmap_active = true;

to:

$ gmap_active = false;

Can I do in a Child Theme that will have the same effect of doing the replacement. I hope not to modify the "sidebar-ad.php"
