Removing sidebar

Hello,

I do not want the space where the content of widget in the sidebar is located to be displayed. I am displaying a static page rather than the ads on my site and got rid of the Roll and Meta space by dragging a text widget in the sidebar. However, the space is blank and I would like tje main page that is being displayed to occupy the full screen. How can I do that?

Alternatively can you limit the text that is being displayed (if I enter something) to a given page? At present when I place text in the sidebar box, the same text is being displayed on all the pages. I do not want that!

I would be OK with text specific to each page that are on the site.
That is a specific text associated with the About us page, a different text for contact us, and so forth
