Need help with full width splash screen image

Hi,

I found the following code on the forum to add to the .css:
.splash-image { background-size:100%;}
.header-widget .columns, .header-widget .column { padding:0 0; }


Nevertheless I do not seem to pull this off.
Adding the .css code does not give full witdh to the image and keep all on 1583px (my image is 1600px)
Because of this I gace a blank area on both sides.
Where to put this .css ?
