Slow Searches

Hi I'm having some problems with a site I'm working on have a few questions about cache's etc.

How large can jobroller sites get without slowing down I imported around 6000 jobs in using some custom code is there maybe a hook I have to call so my jobs are added to a cache?.

When I browse normally results are returned fine however when I try to use search functions the site often fails to respond to the point were I have had to disable the search box.

I have the same issues when using multi-city-jr plugin when I select a location for the first time and then brose a category the search often times out.

Can somebody take a look at my site jobs online its using a fairly customised child theme but I've also tried the same searches on the default theme on a fresh install of 1.7.1 and have the same issues
