.tag is not a function

I seem to be getting this odd error on my client's website. www.hire-ground.co.uk

If you check the console, you'll see the attached error.

It's breaking certain functionality on the site. Everything is up to date on the site and I can't see why this theme is using such old functions etc - why isn't it removed or at least checking for browsers/jQuery versions to see if this is still an available function to use to do the placeholder stuff it's doing?

I'm not sure if this is 100% in the theme but I couldn't find any reference in the code base outside of the theme (chid theme)
