Adding Custom Taxonomies to Vantage?

Unlike every other WordPress theme that I have, it's impossible for me to add a custom taxonomy to Vantage. Not so surprising but really?!

My plan was to add a Location taxonomy, which would enable me to place listings with States and/or Cities (just like a category); however, after implementing the right code it appears that the archive-listing.php file or something else messes it up. According to dimitris, in another thread, he suggested to add location as a parent category... then to go from there.

So if I have 50 categories for listings and 50 categories for states, should I manually add or autogenerate 2500 categories? Does that even make sense? Not to mention the permalink structure and URL (for SEO) would look horrible.

This would also help those with multiple locations, which has been a highly requested addition to Vantage.
