    Child themes

    I am new to Vantage and I'm well along with my site.
    But there's this steady mantra of "Child themes". So here are some questions for my own edification:

    (1) Will making a child theme mean I must start from the beginning all over again?


    If so, then (2) I have installed the App-theme updater which will automatically do updates tom the theme. I understand that this my wipe out any modifications I might make. Can I disable the updater, finish my site and then do the child theme when I have the leisure to do so?
