How to remove the google map from front page

I'm setting up a general type of directry for web address's not locations and I would like to remove the Google Map from the site. (Hide it)
I understand that modding is beyond support. but would like to know if anyone has done this to point me in the correct direction in the files to edit.
I do have firebug installed in firefox and can do a little css tweaks and edits but I easily get lost.
I'm assuming that I will have to use
<!-- --> to hide it
