Registration not working

Having a difficult time getting started.

I have gone through all of the settings but can not figure this out. A new user registering does not receive the email with the password.

The site accepts the registration and message appears to check ones email. The email never arrives.

Now this user is listed in the list of users on the main admin.

but when I try as the user to find my password an error message appears: The e-mail could not be sent.
Possible reason: your host may have disabled the mail() function...
