Upgrade/Timing Out Issue

Hi,

I haven't upgraded to version 4 yet - am a little apprehensive about doing it when I'm quite happy with how 3 works. However, recently people have been having problems with listings - when they are creating a listing it takes a long time, then more often than not it times out. This means people are either giving up after a few attempts, or creating multiple listings where the listing is saved but is telling them it's not. Is this something that is likely to be recified if I upgrade? It's also causing my site do go down quite often, as it seems to suddenly cause a spike in resources where it sends me over what I am allowed, the site goes down briefly then comes back again.
