Full Width Pages

Newbie here in need of some assistance. I know there's several threads about this already but I either didn't have access to some of them (they were for a theme other than JobRoller) or couldn't understand them.

I want to make several custom pages that are full width, without a sidebar. I have duplicated page.php and made full-width-page.php template and I removed the get_sidebar tag, which removed the content of the sidebar but not the actual space. The sidebar space is still there it's just empty.

Now I need to know how to actually get rid of the sidebar space and then make the content space the full width of the page. Remember, I'm a newbie so I need specific instructions. If you give me a code customization please tell me precisely where to put it.
