I was able to resolve this. Steps:

1. Download appthemes-updater.zip from https://my.appthemes.com/purchases/
2. open your site admin panel
3. go to plugins
4. upload and install...

You can even do that on the front page whilst you are logged in. Click on "My Dashboard" and then "Edit Profile". There you can find the fields for a new password.
