ad widget

can i display different ads based on the category,
for example, some is browsing "gyms"
i'd like to show ads based on that,
and show other ads for different categories

if your theme does not do this by default,
is there a plugin you know of that can do this?

Our ClassiPress theme does not do this by default, and there are currently no plugins available in the AppThemes marketplace which would offer what you describe either. This would require customization of the default theme on your part if you were looking to implement this. AppThemes does not offer customization services, however we do have a certified partners page where you can find developers for hire. but i assume answer is same.

however I did find a few plugins that place ads in widget area based on category

My apologies, you hadn't mentioned the theme specifically but you had stated "ads" which lead to me assume it was ClassiPress ;)

To clarify, AppThemes does not officially support third party plugins, so we unfortunately cannot guarantee that all plugins will be compatible with our themes. Our themes make use of custom post types, so if either of the plugins you mention have stated that this is not supported, then they will definitely not work. Also, I have done a quick search of the forums here and cannot find reference to anyone else mentioning the plugins to verify if they work either. Thanks.
