By default, the freelancer can use a profile pic, but there's a specific option to use a link to their portfolio (rather than uploading images). Changing this would require customization on your part. Thanks.
It's not working on the demo because they're examples only, however a live site would generally link to the freelancers own site/online portfolio URL. The employer will see whatever it is that the freelancer has set up. Thanks.
