Can we show ARTICLES or PICTURES on the home page? (without customization)

Hi,

Can we display articles or pictures (or whatever we feel like displaying) on the home page? In other words, can the home page contain things other than just directory listings?

Please note that I'm not referring to tweaking the code or customizing the theme to achieve this, I mean can it be done straight out of the box?

Although WordPress itself has a "show static homepage" option, our themes are not actually designed to use this setting. If you do change the setting, then certain features and functions that are designed for the theme homepage will not work correctly and may require some customization in order to be fixed.

So to summarize, no, there are no built in options which allow you to display a different homepage than what the theme is designed around. Thanks.
