If a childtheme has been created in a correct way, YES, they are compatible. ;)

It is understood that when something is not created the way it is supposed to, it may not work.

Now I have to ask "which way" are you referring to? Is it the "wordpress way" or you have "apptheme way" of creating Child theme?
