    custom or hardcoded view?

    Hi,

I noticed that all the clients' sites listed in the Showcase use the same layout or view to display listing of ads:

    Item Name, Price, Location, Posted

My question is; can those fields be customized? can I change them? can I add more columns? It looks to me that this functionality is limited in 2.9 simply by looking at those showcased websites where no one is deviating from these sort/view fields.

I don't want to display the Price, instead I want to show a custom field in there and let user sort by this field.

If this is hardcoded that is a pretty big limitation (I hope not!!)

    thanks

    Re: custom or hardcoded view?

So could I add a custom field called: STATUS to every ad and let the posters change this status from a drop down of the following options: ACTIVE, SOLD, PENDING

THEN... could I use this STATUS field as a sortable view in place of the Price field?

here is how this will work:

    seller posts an ad
seller sets the flag of his/her ad to ACTIVE
ad is running, someone buys the item
seller logs in, changes the flag to SOLD
the ad is still visible but has the SOLD flag/field on it

Users who visit the main page can sort by this Status to see all ACTIVE ads first or change the sort to something else.

makes sense? can that be done?

    thanks

in a simple answer yes it can be done, very much so.

Your looking at some nice edits though, no simple job.

Hmm, okay I was ready to pull the trigger but now have to think about it.

Really, so it would be quite difficult to do this? time-wise, what would it take?

i could do it in 24 hours, would take some a few days if they dont know classipress. Would be lots of trail and error.
