Custom Search - confused & alternate way to do multi city

Hope you can help with some of this

1) Custom Search
Vantage home page says you can search custom fields 'robust search ..including custom fields..'

But the answer to a Presales q says custom fields are not included in the search

Also if i search for 'Delmar' on the demo site i get no hits even though 'Delmar' is in the address of shadetree cafe and i'm guessing is a custom field.

so all that makes me confused about custom fields search - please help.

2) Is it possible to define the categories (& sub-cats) a place can be listed maybe using payment plans ? doesn't seem possible from the demo.

3) Geo Settings plugins for leaflet & OSM. Very excited - coming soon ?

4) How can I submit presales q for mapsupreme ? comments are not allowed for that plugin and i don't have an account.

5) Thinking about the easiest way to get Vantage to show pins on map for cities.
a) make a category for each city/geographic place.
b) make subcats for the city - bars etc
c) category can have a map pin. - guess this is a problem ?

OR
a) make a special listing type for a city/geographic place and allow the jumbo map on that type.
b) this can already have a map pin so can zoom into the city using that.
c) pins for listings in standard categories will show up on the jumbo map by default

no response required on that one - just thinking

Hi Chris, I'll do my best ;)

1) To clarify, no Vantage does not yet search custom fields (I've contacted our team about the information on the theme page for clarification), but this is planned for a future release of the theme. In terms of the search term "Delmar", this is the street name, and as shown on the demo site the location search tips states "City, Country".

2) Sorry I'm not sure what you mean by this question? Are you able to give an example of what you're looking to do please? In terms of the settings for the plans and what you can define, you can see it here on the Vantage admin demo.

3) Assuming you are referring to the AppMaps plugin mentioned on the Vantage 1.2 blog post, sorry I do not have information available regarding estimated release for this at the moment. Will see what I can find out though and will report back.

4) Pre-sales questions for the Mapsupreme plugin can be submitted in the comments of the Marketplace product page here. The developer will be able to respond directly.

5) You might be able to get a better idea of this once you have some answers from 4) ;)

1) thanks - understood. not sure why the feature is advertised if unavailable though. bit wrong :(
2) I mean can I define what categories are available for users to list their places in - either through a payment plan or some other mechanism.
Basically i want to exclude some categories from user posts so only admins can post to them.

1) Sorry for the confusion, it was an oversight on our part and has been corrected. This is planned for a future release though.

2) Thanks for the clarification, no there is no option to hide certain categories or restrict posting to certain groups. Of note, our ClassiPress theme does have part of what you describe built into the theme as part of its membership functionality (you can determine certain categories require membership in order to be posted in).

4) It appears to only be an issue with that specific marketplace page (MapSupreme for Vantage), but if you'd perhaps like to try commenting on the MapSupreme for JobRoller page in the meantime you'll be able to communicate with the developer there (please just mention you're asking about Vantage specifically).
