    Customizing templates and other questions

    Hello,

I want to create a Business Directory with a Classified section and a Job section. As soon as I saw your templates I was very impressed but I have a couple of questions before buying:

    1. Unfortunatly I'm not a Wordpress expert, actually I know almost nothing about it (while I'm quite expert on Joomla) and my doubt was if your templates, for example Vantage, are customizable. Lets say I want to put an advertisment column on the right side, or in an inner-right side and change their position. Also can I change the template just through CSS's or should I have to code the template for this?

    2. Is there a limit to categories? I'll have to put at least 2000 categories and more.

    2. Is it possible to insert regions and cities as well, just like categories?

    4. In the category view, can you choose what fields to show? For example: company photo, phone number, address, region, city, read more and eventually ad specifi fields based on the category?

    5. Is it possibile to have some sort of customized search? My idea was to make 3 search tabs where you can search by business name and location, the other tab would be for category and location and the third tab by number.

Thanks a lot for your support,
    Danyz

Hi Danyz, in answer to your questions:

    1. Yes our themes are customizable. They are not encrypted, so you are free to make changes as you wish. You may find some of the documentation on our AppThemes developer center useful to see how you can make customizations. We recommend the use of child themes so that you don't lose all of your modifications in the process of an update.
    2. No, there is no limit to the number of categories you can have, but you may wish to note specifically with ClassiPress there is no built in importer which means importing these in bulk may involve a plugin and possibly some additional knowledge of mysql admin in order to do this in bulk. Otherwise, it's a manual process of adding them. In Vantage there is a .csv importer built into the theme for importing listings.
    3. As above, applicable to ClassiPress
    4. What you see in the category view is as you see on the Vantage demo, so again any change to this would require customization on your part. You can however create custom listing forms from within the Vantage admin to determine which fields you wish to add for the form for that specific category.
    5. This would require some customization of the default theme, as the existing search from the main page is for the type and location only. There is a "Refine Search" field which appears in the sidebar when you search a location (as you can see here on the Vantage demo), so you could potentially work with that.

I hope this information helps. Thanks.

    Thank you Pepsi,

    1. Ok. What if I buy a third party template for Wordpress, will that also work?

    2. 3. and 4. Ok thanks.

    5. Do you do this kind of costumizations? Can I ask for a quote via e-mail?

    Thanks again, Daniel

    You're welcome Daniel :)

    1. I'm not sure what you mean by this exactly? Please feel free to clarify if I'm on the wrong track, but to clarify, our themes are stand alone - they require their own instance of WordPress in order to run. They would replace any existing WordPress theme once activated, so they cannot be used simultaneously with another theme.

    5. AppThemes does not offer customization services, however we do have a certified partners page where you can find developers for hire. You can obtain a quote if you make contact directly with an outline of your requirements. Thanks :)

Thank you again. That was clear.

One last question: is there an Italian language pack or I have to translate the whole site?

There is no Italian language pack for the most recent version of Vantage, however there is one for the version before which makes it even easier to complete a new translation since you can migrate existing translation over to a new language file in poedit. You can find all existing Vantage language packs here, instructions on how to translate a theme here, and in fact if you were to contribute an updated translation file you can receive 40% off your next theme purchase as per the rewards outlined on our languages page. Thanks.

Thank you, however I already bought the AppThemes Club Standard and I couldn't use the 40% off promotion on any other template.

When I'm trying to download the old italian language packs I get this error page, actually this happens with any language pack:

    "Page Not Found

We're sorry but the page or file you were trying to access could not be found.

If you feel this is an error, please take it up with Domo."

    Please help, Thank you

Hi Danz, we have been doing some work on the AppThemes site which appears to be effecting the downloads temporarily. Please send us an email with details of your AppThemes username and I can send you the relevant files in the menatime http://www.appthemes.com/about/contact-form/ Thanks.
